SA Young Designer Showcase

Seriously, what better way to cap off the amazing Adelaide Fashion Festival than highlighting all the awesome local talent in the SA Young Designers Showcase. The Adelaide Railway Station lent its old world glam to the event, as the catwalk extended down the concourse with 8 of Adelaide’s finest young designers vying for the 2012 SA Emerging Designer Award. This was followed with a parade of Adelaide’s established young designers including Ivana & Katerina, Yvonne Faye, Necia, couture+love+madness, Malachi Empire, Jaimie Sortino and Paolo Sebastian.

The Adelaide designers proved they are masters at construction, Lachy Lang highlighting the importance of unique and precision tailoring and taking out the coveted Emerging Designer Award, while Fur Elise worked alluring silhouettes in supple leathers. There was refreshingly great stuff for guys from Morning Theft and Necia worked the staple and characteristic peplum with flawless styling and cuts, and showed us some very wearable shirts.  Breathtaking glamour came from Jamie Sortino, Malachi Empire and Paolo Sebastian and couture+love+madness blended embellished elegance with modern materials. The overall feel for the showcase was one of strong construction and shapes, highly modernist yet easily wearable (hard to say sometimes in a small town like Adelaide).

Here are some picture highlights and some of my favourite pieces from the night.

The after party was held at Tuxedo Cat with cute bunting and the drinks served from a retro caravan. A lovely way to finish the night and the festival.
